Theodore Fox

Theodore "Ted" on February 26, 2025. Loving father of Robin Fox (Dr. Ronald Brookmeyer), David Fox (Maria), Michael Fox (Martha Chovanes), and Brian Fox (Andrea). Devoted brother of Robert Fox (Isabelle), the late Stanley Fox, and the late Peggy Cluster (late Ray). Beloved Grandfather of Diana (Rickard Dybeck), Michael (Rachel), Claire, Killian, Jeremy, Avery, Leah, Adam, and the late Jason. Adoring Great-Grandfather of Charlie. Beloved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. His grandchildren will all miss the “bunny hop” he did to greet them.

Ted Fox lived a rewarding and complete life starting out as the youngest child of devoted parents Michael and Bertha. Their family of six thrived in Baltimore, MD. After his father died in 1939, Ted attended Forest Park High School in Baltimore and then Rutgers Preparatory School in New Brunswick, NJ. At Rutgers Prep, Ted joined the football team. He was two-way player at tackle and earned the moniker “Mud Tackle”, which, he explained, was primarily due to him often being face down on the ground while running backs ran over him with mud on their cleats.

Ted joined the United States Coast Guard in 1945 and traveled extensively along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico in Coast Guard ships helping to protect the American shoreline from enemy ships and submarines. With the war effort winding down, Ted was Honorably Discharged in 1947, ending his career as a Petty Officer. He attended Penn State College (now University) in State College, PA, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Letters degree in 1949. Ted fondly looked back at his time in the Coast Guard and at Penn State as positive life-changing experiences for him.

In 1952 Ted married Shirley Kruger. They settled down in Baltimore, had four children, and lived in a tight knit community on Southern Cross Court. He initially worked at the Schiffman Mattress Manufacturing Company and went on to a 15-year career at Domino Sugar, starting in Baltimore. Ted was promoted to the Domino Sugar facility in Brooklyn, NY, and the family moved to Bengeyfield Drive in East Williston, Long Island, NY. He went to work at the H. Wolff Book Manufacturing Company in Manhattan, NY and then the AAMCO Transmissions company in Pennsauken, NJ and Bala Cynwyd, PA. As a result, the family moved to Marlowe Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ in 1969.

Two years later, AAMCO decided to try their hand at opening a chain of gift stores in shopping malls. Ted was asked to get the first store open, located at the King of Prussia Plaza. Coincidentally, a former colleague from Domino Sugar in Baltimore was a partner at Kravco Co., owner of the KOP Plaza. In a short time, Ted joined the fast-growing Kravco Company and by 1975 he rose to become the VP of Management. In this role, he oversaw construction, opening and management of many enclosed shopping malls around the country. Those in the greater Philadelphia area include the Oxford Valley Mall, Quakerbridge Mall, Lehigh Valley Mall and The Court at King of Prussia. Once his youngest child went off to college, and Ted was single, Ted moved to Frazier, PA in 1979. Many do not know that Ted named a professional football team. When the United States Football League (USFL) started, Kravco ownership started the Philadelphia franchise, and Ted named the team the Philadelphia Stars.

In 1984, Ted moved back to Baltimore to be the VP of Management for Mall Management Associates. He traveled extensively overseeing its portfolio of enclosed shopping malls.

Ted always had a vision to end his career in Florida and in 1986, he took over management of the crown jewel of the Soffer Company's Aventura Mall in Aventura, FL. He oversaw numerous redevelopments and additions to the property during his 10 years there.

Ted lived in Hollywood, FL, then in 1999, moved to Boynton Beach, FL with his second wife Paula. He enjoyed his retirement and played tennis twice a week into his 90's. Together he and Paula saw many shows at their community center, spent time with friends, and traveled abroad while always focused and engaged with their seven children and thirteen grandchildren.

Ted spent the last 3+ years at Brightview Senior Living in East Norriton, PA, enjoying their great staff, his very close friends and his companion.

His good nature, warmth and generosity touched many.
