Ted H. Greenberg, of Philadelphia, PA. passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2025, from Parkinson’s and related complications. He was 78 years old.
Ted was born in Brooklyn, New York, and later lived in central Manhattan where he graduated from Charles Evans Hughes High School, and attended NYU. Ted moved to Philadelphia in late 1960s, living first in Powelton Village and later settling in Overbrook Farms.
Folk Music was central to Ted’s life. He volunteered at the Philadelphia Folk Festival every year beginning in 1965, and chaired several committees including Crafts, Volunteers, and Service Area. His historic home in Overbrook (nicknamed the “Overbrook Home for the Bewildered”) was the scene of frequent sings, house concerts, and parties.
Although Ted did not play an instrument, he mastered the art of sound reinforcement, supporting artists and performances from behind the scenes. He founded Clear Sound Inc. in 1975, which grew into a company providing sound reinforcement and related services for concerts, festivals, and event venues throughout the Philadelphia region.
Leaving Clear Sound in 2001, Ted had a second career as an inspector doing pre-sale inspections for home buyers, until he retired in 2012.
Living in historic Overbrook Farms, Ted developed an interest in historic preservation, and served on the board of the Overbrook Farms Club. He was active in the preservation and upkeep of the 63rd Stret commercial corridor, where he at one time co-owned and managed three apartment buildings. Ted and his wife Cheryl also carried out extensive restoration on their National Register-listed home.
Ted is survived by daughters Jen Greenberg (Matt Miller), Samantha Greenberg (Arthur Romero), grandson Parker Romero, brother Les Greenberg (Sandy), and nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial gathering is being planned for a future date. Ted requested contributions might be made to public radio stations WXPN https://xpn.org/ways-to-support/ or WRTI, https://www.wrti.org/
