Suzanne Rachael Cohen, born September 19, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, in Moorestown, New Jersey, with her daughter Julie Cohen by her side. Sue’s life was marked by complexity and contrast, shaped by both deep challenges and moments of personal pride.
A graduate of West Philadelphia High School, class of 1954, Sue spent much of her life working in customer service and administrative roles. Her work provided her with a sense of purpose and independence, particularly as her children grew older. At the same time, she fulfilled the full responsibilities of a homemaker typical of her era—managing the household and raising her family—balancing both roles with determination.
Sue’s relationships within her immediate family were often complicated, reflecting struggles and regrets that remained with her throughout her life. Yet beyond those closest to her, many who met Sue were drawn to her distinctive presence. She had a strong sense of personal style and took pride in her appearance, never leaving the house without makeup and a carefully chosen outfit. She had a particular talent for finding both fashion and bargains at places like Macy’s and T.J. Maxx.
Her greatest joys came from her grandchildren and her dogs. Over the years, she cared for many beloved canine companions—Pokey, Daphne, Sandy, Topper, Shalimar, Taylor, Max, and Ziggy—each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also expressed her love through tradition and hospitality, especially in the tremendous effort she put into preparing and hosting holiday meals for her extended family. Her renowned matzo ball soup was a centerpiece of Rosh Hashanah and Passover gatherings, traditions she sustained for decades with care and dedication.
Sue was a lifelong Democrat and held strong political views. She had a deep dislike for Donald Trump and expressed it unapologetically, often wearing colorful political buttons that reflected her dismay. In later years, as dementia limited her awareness of current events, there was a small mercy in her being spared the experience of Trump’s second term.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joel Cohen. She is survived by her daughter Julie Cohen, her husband Nigel Blower, and their son Aaron Blower; her daughter Melissa Cohen, her husband Alex Horn, and their daughter Ciera Horn; and her son Jonathan Cohen, his wife Janine Daub, and their daughters Paige Cohen and Jaclyn Cohen.
In keeping with Sue’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A remembrance gathering and shiva will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the home of Julie Cohen. Guests are welcome beginning at 4:00 p.m., with Kaddish and a eulogy at 7:00 p.m.

Sue’s life was not without hardship, but those who knew her, even briefly, encountered a woman of independence, strong feeling, and individuality. She will be remembered and honored by those who loved her, in all her complexity.
