Susan Lynn
Goldberg
February 4, 1958 – June 1, 2026
Susan Lynn Goldberg, 68, passed away suddenly on June 1, 2026. Beloved wife of Jonathan, loving mother of Layla (Matthew) Smiroldo and Zoey (Travis) Clark. Grandmother of Ellis and Henry Clark. Sister of Robert (Donna) Goldberg.
Susan and Jon met in Washington, D.C. in 1984 and married in 1987, settling first in Media and then moving to Swarthmore in 1993 with their two young daughters.
Susan received her B.A. from Tufts University in 1980; her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984; and her masters in Legal Education from Temple University School of Law in 1986. She was a tenured member of the law faculty at Delaware Law School since 1986 until retirement, teaching both core first-year courses and seminars in areas of health law, biomedical ethics and the law, informed consent, and related issues in these ever-changing times. During most of her tenure, she also served as the Law School’s Dean of Students for Academic Affairs; counseling students daily on all areas of their academic (and often non-academic) lives.
An avid traveler, Susan was often planning two or three trips in advance; traveling with friends and family to as many places as possible. Not surprising to anyone who knew her, there are already trips planned going out over the next two years. She was a wonderful cook and a fantastic baker of desserts from simple cookies to elaborate cakes, never needing to test the goods before serving them to her adoring friends and family. She loved spending her time on arts and crafts projects, throwing herself fully into each new project.
The Berkshire Hills in Western Massachusetts was her home away from home. A childhood vacation home in Becket for her and her brother and parents would become a home for everyone she loved; she brought everyone to Becket and The Berkshires. It was a treasured getaway and gathering for her extended family every summer from the time the children were born to today. It was truly her happy place.
Her sweet spot was gathering friends and family and holding them close forever. Once within her circle, you were always within her circle. She never let go of anyone. Just ask any of them.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Planned Parenthood and the North Shore Animal League.
