SOL DAVIS

Sol Davis was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1930. The son of a Kosher butcher, Sol was always cost-conscious and a bargain hunter. He earned the prize in Solid Geometry in high school for finding an error on the New York Regents exam, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Carnegie Mellon with a Master's in mathematics.

He taught high school math, then spent the rest of his career as a Transportation Safety Engineer, working in Philadelphia, PA, Long Island, NY, Detroit, MI, and Phoenix, AZ, before retiring from the FAA in Los Angeles, CA and returning to Phoenix with Beverly, his wife of 54 years.

Sol was a man of logic and reason, with a quirky sense of humor. He loved teaching kids, whether it was introducing them to a strange fruit like kiwi and persimmon or experimenting with objects in water to see which would float.

In retirement, Sol was active with the Brooklyn College Alumni Association and NARFE and enjoyed movies and musical programs at the local Jewish senior center. For the last six years, he spent most of his time with his dear lady friend, Carolyn Edlin at her home Sun City West. He was generous with his time and money, especially if you were a relative in need.

Sol is survived by his daughter Ruth Davis, her spouse Marika Witenko, and his son Mark Davis. Graveside prayers at Har Yehuda on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Jewish Family and Childrens Services, 4747 N. 7th St., Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
