In Loving Memory of Sidney Ferder
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sidney Ferder, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who left this world on October 20, 2025, at the age of 95. Sidney was surrounded by the loving presence of his family as he transitioned to the next stage of his eternal journey.
Sidney was born on July 20, 1930, in The Bronx, New York, to Charles and Fannie Ferder. At the tender age of 12, he moved with his family to Philadelphia, where he blossomed both academically and personally, graduating from Northeast High School. His courage and dedication were evident as he proudly served as a U.S. Army sergeant in the Korean War with the Signal Intelligence Corps. Sidney balanced military service with education, earning a degree in photography and photolithography from the Antonelli School of Photography.
Sidney was known for his creative spirit, working as a graphic designer and foreman. His notable tenure at Berm Studios in Philadelphia showcased his talent, particularly in designing displays for trade shows. A true artisan, he remained passionate about silk screening and photography well into retirement, never losing his love for these crafts.
Sidney exemplified what it meant to be a family man—genuine, compassionate, and always ready to lend a listening ear or share a smile. He cherished his time spent with family, delighting in gardening and savoring quiet moments with a newspaper in hand.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Ferder (née Schwartz), with whom he shared a astonishing 70 years of marriage. Sidney's legacy continues through his three remarkable children: Michael (Pamela) Ferder, Debra (Robert) Bram, and Lori (Dino) Mascitti. His family extended beyond his immediate children, as he was a proud grandfather to Joshua, Shayna, Benjamin (Ashley), and Nathan (Tamar), as well as a step-grandfather to Devin (Eric) and Kasey. Sidney was also blessed with the joy of being a great-grandfather to Eliana, Olivia, and Libi. The bonds he formed with each of them were irreplaceable, filled with laughter, guidance, and countless memories.
While Sidney cherished his life with his family, he also endured the deep sorrow of loss. He was predeceased by his son Ronald Ferder, who departed this world far too soon on January 27, 1969, as well as his brother, Milton Ferder, who passed on December 19, 1979. Sidney also mourned the passing of his parents, Charles and Fannie Ferder, who provided him with a foundation of love and resilience that he carried throughout his life.
As we remember Sidney Ferder, let us celebrate his life, characterized by love, creativity, and unwavering devotion to family.
