Retired professor of philosophy, Temple University and the University of South Florida. Survived by his long time partner, Christeen Brady; his daugher Constance Axinn Johnson; son-in-law Peter Johnson; daugher-in-law Elizabeth Axinn; grandchildren Sarah (Randy) Bird, Aaron (Jennie) Johnson, Allan Axinn, and Katie Axinn; great granddaughter June Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife June Axinn and son David M. Axinn.
Sidney earned his under-graduate and PhD degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and served in the army in World War II. He was an avid sailor and chess player and loved classical music.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union.
