Shirley Silverman (nee Wolf), 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Shirley was born and raised in South Philadelphia. She was the devoted daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Wolf and sister to the late Alfred Wolf, M.D., Ph.D., Sc.D.

After graduating from South Philadelphia High School for Girls, Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper at The Middishade Clothing Factory in Philadelphia.

In 1956, Shirley met Leonard Silverman, Esq. and soon married to become a wife, mother, and homemaker. Shirley took great pride in the accomplishments not only of her own family, but of her extended family as well.

Together, Shirley and Leonard raised three children where they encouraged academic pursuits, including both secular and Hebrew education, in order to be the best possible versions of themselves. Shirley also encouraged her children to have lots of friends and inviting those friends to the house where she enjoyed cooking and baking for them.

As an active member of Beth Sholom Congregation, Shirley left her indelible mark as a long-time member and officer of their Sisterhood spearheading their Oneg Shabbat for many years. Throughout the years, she also was active in Hadassah and couldn’t resist a game of Mah Jongg.

Widowed suddenly in 1983, Shirley persevered by going back to work at Bloomingdale’s and continuing her volunteer activities, when possible. Fiercely independent, Shirley remained in the same home she and Leonard built in 1968, living there until only weeks before her passing.

Shirley is survived by her three children - Debra Silverman Shain (Jonathan), Arthur Silverman (Hope), and Michael Silverman. In addition, she was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren – Andrew Silverman (Alyssa), Emily Shain Waugh (Robert), Laura Silverman (Daniel Pavlik), and Jacob Shain as well as a great grandson, Lucas Waugh.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Sunday, August 30 at 1:30pm precisely at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Suburban North, 310 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park.

Shiva will be observed at the residence of Debra and Jonathan Shain as follows:

Sunday following interment with Minyan at 7:00pm.

Monday and Tuesday 2:00pm – 5:00pm and after 6:30pm, with Minyan each night at 7:00pm.
