Sherri Kaplan, a beloved paralegal and cherished family member, passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2025, in Philadelphia. Born on December 20, 1960, Sherri was a kind and thoughtful soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Sherri dedicated her professional life to public service, working as a paralegal for the City of Philadelphia District Attorney's office since 2018. Before that, she devoted many years of her career to the University of Pennsylvania, where she contributed significantly to both the School of Nursing and the Law School. Her commitment to her work reflected her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Education was important to Sherri, as she earned her Master’s degree in English from Ryder University in 1990 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Temple University in 1982. Her academic achievements were a testament to her dedication and intellectual curiosity.
Sherri's warm personality and wonderful sense of humor were well-known among her family and friends. She had a deep love for her family, especially her great-nieces, Charlotte and Madison. Sherri cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will endure through time. Her chosen family and their children also held a special place in her heart, highlighting her capacity for love and community.
In addition to her love for family, Sherri found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed immersing herself in a good book, engaging in word searches, and listening to Philadelphia Phillies games on the radio. The freedom she experienced while riding her bike through the scenic paths of Fairmount Park along the Schuylkill River brought her immense happiness and connection to her beloved city.
Sherri was a devout animal lover, especially fond of her cat, Mr. Buttercup, who was a constant source of companionship. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalie and Stuart Kaplan, who undoubtedly cherished her throughout their lives.
Sherri is survived by her brother, Rick Kaplan, and sister-in-law, Louise Kaplan; her nephew, Jeremy Kaplan, and niece-in-law, Emily Kaplan; and their children, Charlotte and Madison. She leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness, warmth, and laughter that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.
