Sheldon Jekofsky, of Newtown PA, formerly of Philadelphia, died on March 19, 2020 at the age of 85. Eldest son of the late Claire & Joseph Jekofsky, beloved husband of Carol (nee Hirschfeld), devoted father of Dawn (Dr. William) Hirsch, loving grandfather of Jason and Danielle Hirsch, and brother of Melvin (Sandy) Jekofsky and Robert (Bernice) Jekofsky. A 1952 graduate of Overbrook High School, Sheldon attended St. Joseph's at night taking accounting courses. There he met a Priest who helped him secure his first job at 18 with the Philco Corporation as a junior accountant. In 1957 Sheldon was drafted into the Army as an Accounting Specialist. Returning to Philco two years later, he was transferred to Cost Accounting and was sent to many underdeveloped countries to estimate their Communication Systems. Philco eventually became known as Lockheed Martin, where he retired after 44 years as a Senior Financial Analyst. Sheldon was widowed in 1970 when his wife Renee (Kaufman) died, leaving him with their six year old daughter. He remained closely tied to the Kaufman family, Barbara and Steve Pellicone and their children. In 1972, Carol caught Sheldon's eye, and they were married the following year. Together they raised Dawn and remained happily married for the next 46 years. He was an avid coin collector and passed that interest onto his two grandchildren. He loved sports, especially the Phillies and really enjoyed watching Classic old movies. After he retired, his love of food preparation led him to assist in the kitchen at the Holland Day Camp in the summer. Sheldon was famous within his family for his tasty chopped liver, which he painstakingly prepared by hand for every Jewish Holiday dinner. The Jekofsky's were lifetime members of Congregation Rodeph Shalom. Sheldon will be greatly missed by his family, including many nieces and nephews and his long time friends.
Contributions in his memory can be made to Congregation Rodeph Shalom, 615 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia PA 19123, or a charity of the donor's choice.
