Sheila Allen Epstein

Listen to Obituary

Sheila Iris Allen Epstein, age 88, died peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2026, at her home in Philadelphia, PA. Sheila was born on July 26, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Abraham and Faye (Smoger) Allen.

Sheila cherished her childhood spent above her family's restaurant in South Philadelphia, surrounded by cousins and relatives. Her deep connection to her hometown motivated her to stay in Philadelphia and attend Temple University, where she earned an associate’s degree. In 1959, she married Burton Blender and together they built a life together in Cheltenham, where they had three boys together.

After her divorce and living in Melrose Park for more than 30 years, Sheila met and married the love of her life, William Epstein. Together, they embarked on a life adventure filled with love, laughter, and travels. She was a devoted mother to her five children.

Following the passing of her beloved William in 1997, Sheila remained active by taking classes and working as a hospitality concierge at the Philadelphia Visitors Center. She loved helping visitors learn about the city and always had great suggestions for things to do and places to eat. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and always enjoyed watching games on TV and rooting for her favorite teams. Sheila also loved spending time with her children and was blessed with ten grandchildren.

Sheila is survived by her children, Gregg (Penny) Blender, Richard (Maria) Blender, Josh (Susan) Blender, Sharon (David) Higdon and Suzanne (Jonathan) Ellenthal; ten grandchildren, Jake, Sophie, Zachary, Alex, Max, Isaac, Ilya, Ashley, Madi, Noah; a sister, Judith (Stephen) Ward and a wealth of family and friends who loved her profoundly.

Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, Pennsylvania. Shiva information will be provided at the cemetery.
