Selma Koffer Schwartz (1917-2018)
Born December 27, 1917 and died on Sunday, January 7, 2018, after a brief illness. Selma was born in Richmond, VA, but lived nearly all of her life in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Silver Spring, MD in 2009.
While raising her two sons, Selma was very involved with her synagogue, West Oak Lane Jewish Community Center, where she was editor of the temple newsletter, manager of their gift shop and an officer in the temple Sisterhood. She later became an elementary school secretary before transferring and eventually retiring from the Philadelphia Board of Education.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Sophie Bannett; her first husband Dr. Robert Koffer; her second husband Benjamin Schwartz; her sister Eleanor (Bannett) Weinberg; and brother Dr. Aaron Bannett.
Selma is survived by her two sons Dr. Dennis Koffer and his wife Gayle Johnston Koffer and Larry Koffer and his wife Barbara Disson Koffer; three grandchildren Brittany Koffer, Rachel Koffer, and Robert Koffer and his wife Angela Marin Koffer; and one greatgrandchild, Abigail Koffer.
