Obituary

Sandra Aileen Kazansky Roeberg , a beloved mother and grandmother, age 88, of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026.

Sandy was born on April 27, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the only daughter and first born of Solomon and Pearl Kazansky. She was born in South Philadelphia where she lived until the age of ten. Sandy’s family then moved to East Oak Lane where she lived until she married. Sandy graduated from Olney High School. She then enrolled at Temple University where she was an education major and earned a teaching degree. Sandy went on to have a long and accomplished teaching career as she taught 3rd grade for over thirty years at the Steel Elementary School in North Philadelphia until her retirement at the age of 62.

In 1960, Sandy married and had two children. Sandy’s love and devotion to her children, first her daughter Lisa and then her son Kenny, was unwavering. Sandy was an excellent cook. She loved to prepare homemade meals for her family and many friends. Sandy was also an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan who instilled a passion in her children and grandchildren for all of the Philadelphia sports teams.

After Sandy retired at the age of 62, she finally had some time to travel to places that she always wanted to visit, including St. Petersburg, Scandinavia, Paris, London, among other places.

However, Sandy was never happier than when she was spending time with her five grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Zachary, Paige, Heather, Rebecca and Kylie gave Sandy a whole new purpose in the latter stage of her life. Sandy loved the theatre and was very proud of Philadelphia’s rich history. She loved to take her five grandchildren to various theater productions in downtown Philadelphia and to teach them about the history of Philadelphia including the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, and Independence Hall. The grandchildren loved their Saturdays with their "Grammy" which always included a delicious lunch and treats.

Sandy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be missed very much but never forgotten. Sandy is survived by her brother Jerry Kazansky (Marge), her daughter Lisa Ruderman (Michael) , her son Kenneth Roeberg (Trish) , and her five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Stanley who passed at a very young age with Tay Sachs.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday May 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Har Jehuda Cemetery located at 8400 Lansdowne Avenue, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Afterwards, the family will be receiving friends and family at Ken and Trish’s house in Blue Bell, Pa.

Contributions in Sandy Roeberg’s name may be made to the Tay Sachs Foundation.
