Sandra Renick

SANDRA JACQUELINE RENICK, age 83, died peacefully on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 in Philadelphia after a short bout with pneumonia.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Milton Renick, her older sister and brother-in-law Greta and Bernie Garr, her sister-in-law Linda Renick, and her brother-in-law Marvin Robinson.  She is survived by her older brother Norman Renick and her younger sister Caroline Robinson.  She is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews:  Steven Garr, Michael (Natalie) Garr, Phillip Renick, Michele Renick, Eric (Michal) Robinson, and Rachelle (Moshe) Steinerman.  I would like to make special mention of her friend and caregiver Ed MCann and fantastic friend and supporter Delora Ferracchio.

She was born in the Bronx with her siblings and relocated to Philadelphia at a young age.  She was a die-hard Eagles and Phillies fan.  Sandy graduated Girl’s High School in Philadelphia in 1958 and was a pioneer for women in the work force, starting as a key punch operator and working her way up to higher positions at Gulf Oil.  She retired early but retirement didn’t slow her down.    She provided care for her mother and father in their home in Philadelphia while pursuing crafting.   She began with stained glass and moved on to other projects such as jewelry making and paper crafts while traveling to craft shows.  She knitted hats and blankets for donations.  She had a knack for creativity.

In later years, she found a passion for volunteering at a senior center, Surrey of Havertown (now Broomall) and was awarded volunteer of the year multiple times for her service.  To her, it wasn’t a service, but a desire to share her zest for life with others.  She taught line dancing, brain fitness, and crafting.  She organized many casino trips and overall, looked for ways to keep her friends active.

In her later years, she was diagnosed with cancer and was a role model for others as she proved that yes, you can fight cancer and overcome it.  She never quit and that was part of her legacy.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a donation to her favorite charities such as St. Jude’s or Shriners or the cancer care foundation which provides assistance to cancer patients.   The funeral will be a graveside service on 04/11/24 at 1 pm at Har Jehuda Cemetery in Lansdowne.
