Ruth Marion Gerber (nee Friedman) died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 18, 2019 at the astonishing age of 101.
Ruth is lovingly survived by her children: Robert (Edith) Gerber, Roy (Beth) Gerber, and Judith Gerber; grandchildren: Jason (Donna) Gerber, Erick Gerber, Sarah (Stanley) Fronczkowski, and David (Jeanna) Spetgang; and sister-in-law, Sally Friedman. Her legacy also included her great-grandchildren: Jack, Leo, Brody, Lucy, Abigail, and Cole. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Frederick L. Gerber; siblings: Arnold Friedman, Shirley Roffman, and Sandra Wolf, as well as son-in-law Ian Spetgang.
Ruth was born on September 8, 1918 in Providence, R.I., and enjoyed her childhood on the beaches of Nausauket with her siblings and cousins. After moving to Newark and marrying her sweetheart, Frank, the couple raised their three children in Clifton, New Jersey while instilling values of loyalty, family, and love.
Ruth's favorite memories took place at her family's lake house, located on Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where extended family and friends were welcomed weekend after weekend. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, discussing politics and spending time with her children, and later, marveled at treasured moments with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside burial is scheduled for Monday, December 23, 2019 at 1:00pm at New Mount Zion Cemetery in Lyndhurst, NJ. Close friends and family are welcome to join the family for Shiva at the home of Judy Gerber later that evening.
