Rudolph (Ralph) Franklin passed peacefully at the age of 97 on January 18th, 2026. Ralph was born in Germany in 1928. Being Jewish, he and his parents were forced to flee the Nazi regime and emigrated to Philadelphia in 1941.
Ralph embraced his new life, became an enthusiastic Phillies fan, and graduated from Central High School. He then earned a degree in accounting from Temple University. He served in the Army during the Korean war. Subsequently, he built a successful insurance business specializing in motorcycles.
Ralph was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Fran, were inseparable. They loved traveling the world, often by cruise ship. Ralph, a Silver Life Master at bridge, sometimes served as the ship’s bridge director.
Ralph was an esteemed member of his local synagogue, Old York Road Temple, Beth Am. As a Holocaust survivor, he shared his experience with students, speaking at many Philadelphia-area high schools. He spread a message of serenity, wisdom, and gratitude wherever he went.
He is survived by Fran, his loving wife of 70 years; their three children: Harriet (Justin), Janet (Matt), and Michael (Valerie); and their seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica (Jay), Rebecca, Daniel, Josh, Melanie and Steven.
