Roslyn Gorchow

December 9, 1928 — November 26, 2025

Sarasota, FL

Roslyn Diane Wein Gorchow z’l was born December 9, 1928, in Madison, WI, to Sylvia Sweet (d.) and Gordon Wein (d.), both of Blessed memory.

Roslyn graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She went on to State Teachers College in Milwaukee, WI, to receive a kindergarten and pre-school teaching certification. After moving to Chicago, she worked for 1 year at JPI, caring for the children of newly arrived immigrants. From 1953-1955, she was the Director of Preschool at the Sioux City Jewish Center in Iowa. She met her husband of 65 years, Neil Gorchow (who predeceased her in 2020), at the Center. They married in Madison, WI, on October 23, 1955. The newlyweds moved to Sioux City, where Neil worked at the Block Coal Company with his father. The couple moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, in April 1956 after Neil accepted a job at UNIVAC. In Minnesota, Roslyn gave birth to Julie Beth and Bruce David. The young family moved to Chevy Chase, Maryland, where Jonathan Ross and Sheryl Lynn were born, before moving to Rydal, PA, in 1965. They raised their family in Rydal and joined Beth Sholom Congregation, Elkins Park, PA, where Roslyn was Editor of the Beth Sholom newsletter for 18 years, interviewing staff, proofing copy, doing the layout, and taking final copy to the printer, a job she loved. She received a Master of Library Sciences degree from Villanova University and worked part-time at the Cheltenham High School library.

After Neil’s retirement, the couple visited and eventually purchased a home in Sarasota, FL, in 1987, where Roslyn pursued memoir, short story, and poetry writing and photography. She shared her writings, poems, and favorite photographs throughout her later years.

She loved to travel with Neil, visiting Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Cologne, Rome, Amalfi Coast. She was an avid reader and writer. Roslyn was a Life Member of Hadassah and a Young Judaea leader. She considered raising her four children her greatest achievement.

Roslyn was the beloved wife of the late Neil z’l, and the cherished mother of Julie (Bob), Bruce (Jodi), Jon (Elana), and Sheryl (Marc). Roslyn was also adored by her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer (Evan), Joseph (Christian), Stephanie, Jay, Andy, Zach, Grace (fiancé Will), Walter, Zoe, Sophia, Leah, Gabriel, Riley, and Blake. And Roslyn was blessed to be the great-grandmother of Norah, Ava, Aliyah, and Naomi. Roslyn was predeceased by her sister, Isabelle (Bob), and is survived by her sister, Mae Louise (Sheldon Z'l).

The funeral service will take place on Sunday, November 30, at 11:00 AM at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, PA. Those wishing to make donations in Roslyn’s memory are invited to contribute to the Early Learning Center at Beth Sholom Congregation.
