Obituary

Rose Cohen Salkind (née Shull) passed away on June 5, 2026 of natural causes at the age of 95. She was born in Philadelphia on February 10, 1931 to parents Benjamin and Betty, and raised in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of the city with her brother, Samuel.

Rose graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls (class of 1949), earned her BA and MA from Temple University, then worked as a School Counselor at Woodrow Wilson Middle School (now Castor Gardens Middle School). She was a gifted musician, played the piano beautifully, and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and the calligraphic arts. She adored seeing live performances, including the ballet, the opera, and musicals and plays on stage, and she was a regular at the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Walnut Street Theatre. In her retirement, Rose loved to stroll along the beach in Ventnor, NJ, where she spent summers at 5000 Boardwalk. She liked playing canasta and bridge with friends and also appreciated attending scholarly lectures at Adath Israel in Merion Station with partner Arthur Kaplan.

Rose is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry Cohen, with whom she lived in the Northeast neighborhood of Philadelphia, and then Norman Salkind, with whom she lived in Green Hill Condominium in Wynnewood, PA.

She is survived by her devoted children Brenda (Ronald) of Jupiter, FL and Sheryl (Terry) of West Berlin, NJ. Her legacy will be carried on by her cherished grandchildren Joshua, Elizabeth, Jordanna, Suzanne, Joseph, and Becky, and by her great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services on Monday, June 8 at 1:30pm, at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Funeral Home (310 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA). The interment will take place immediately afterwards at Shalom Memorial Park (3573 Pine Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA). Shiva will be observed on Monday, June 8 at 5:30pm, at the Montebello Clubhouse (165 Piedmont Blvd, Berlin Township, NJ) and on Tuesday, June 9 at 6:00pm, at the residence of Michael and Elizabeth Brunswick in Villanova, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rose’s memory can be made to the Jewish National Fund or to Jewish Federation Of Greater Philadelphia
