Born in Philadelphia in 1926, Bob attended Swarthmore College as an undergraduate and then attended University of Pennsylvania where he studied medicine and psychiatry. During his long career, he worked in psychiatric institutions such as Norristown State Hospital, as well as in private practice.
Eternally kind and compassionate, Bob always had a keen interest in the lives of others, and cultivated a great variety of friends and acquaintances of all ages. He was an avid gardener, a voracious reader, and a lover of classical music, particularly Bach. Bob believed in the possibility of lives beyond our current realm, and spent many hours researching this fascination, and sharing it with others.
He was known for his exceptional memory, and even through his 90s could recite his family tree going back to the 1800s, and share tidbits about people, places and things he experienced in his long, rich life.
A devoted member of the Beth Israel Synagogue, Bob became friend and mentor to many, and was considered the ‘Grandaddy’ of the congregation.
