Robert Alan Goldstein July 14, 1934 – September 4, 2024 Robert, known as "Bob", passed away at home on September 4, 2024 in Monroe Township NJ at the age of 90. Born on July 14, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, Bob led a life filled with humble accomplishment, humor and great love for his family. As a native New Yorker, Bob grew up and remained a die-hard Yankees fan and sports enthusiast, playing a season of baseball for Brooklyn College, was a champion bowler, and maintained his weekly round of golf, especially with his sons, until just a few months prior to his passing. He recorded 2 holes-in-one, the first on his 65th birthday, and the second amazingly on his 75th birthday. Combined with his skills as a cartoon artist, Bob received a Master Degree in Physics from the University of Maryland. He was instrumental in the discovery of Teflon while initially working for the Government, and ultimately spent his entire career combining his artistic and mathematical skills in the forefront of 3D computing during the 60’s -80’s, most notably as the lead Fortran programmer creating 3D images with programs he had created for the 1982 Disney cult movie TRON. An accomplished piano player in his 40’s-50’s, Bob enjoyed a 32 year retirement participating in many art classes, taking keen interest in his grandchildren's varied activities, winters in Florida, and of course, always working on his golf game.
Bob is survived by his wife Harriet of 68 years, having met at a sweet 16 party of a mutual friend during a game of musical chairs. They were a perfect couple and raised their sons Bruce and Steven in Dobbs Ferry, NY before embarking on a 5 year adventure living in Los Angeles in their early 60’s prior to moving back to White Plains to be closer to family. In addition to his son, Bob is survived by his son’s wives, Pam and Betsy, 5 grandchildren Lloyd, Hannah, Lily, William and Henry, his sister Linda Baer, and many old and new friends. Bob loved a good joke, never took advantage of anyone, led a life of deep love for his family and was a friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to Graveside Services Friday, September 6, 1:00 PM at Roosevelt Cemetery, 2701 Old Lincoln Highway, Trevose, PA 19053.
