Robert I. Goldberg

Bob passed away peacefully on March 4, 2023 with his family by his side. Devoted husband to the love of his life for almost 60 years, Tina (nee Contino). Bob and Tina were preparing to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 20th. Bob’s greatest passion was politics. He loved campaigning for his heroes, John F. Kennedy, Hubert H. Humphrey, and Barack Obama. He spent every Election Day at the polls handing out literature and talking to his neighbors. Bob served as Chairman of the Upper Darby Democratic Committee for several years. He helped Bob Edgar become the first Democratic Congressman from the PA 7th district in 1975. In 1984, Bob hosted Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman nominated for Vice President at a political rally in Upper Darby.  His greatest political accomplishment was being nominated as a delegate to Jimmy Carter and attending the 1980 Democratic Convention in New York City. Bob worked as an auditor for the State of Pennsylvania until he retired in 2003. He then found his dream job working in the office of the former State Representative Mario Civera. Bob worked as a liaison for Representative Civera’s constituents. Nothing gave him more pleasure than helping the members of his community. Bob devoted his life to his faith and his church, St. Bernadette in Drexel Hill. He served as President of the Holy Name Society and often volunteered as an usher. In 1979, he was part of the parish delegation to welcome Pope John Paul II to Philadelphia for a Papal Visit. For ten years he volunteered as the track coach for St. Bernadette School, helping his team make it to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Bob’s greatest love was his wife Tina and their four children. Together they built a life that included 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Bob welcomed his newest great-grandchild in February. He loved his Sunday dinners and celebrating his beloved Eagles with his family. He is predeceased by his parents Herman and Beatrice (nee Berenson) Goldberg and his brother-in-law Albert Pipino. In addition to his beloved wife Tina, Bob is survived by his cherished children Robert J. Goldberg (Heidi), Karen Goldberg, Lisa Pittman (Michael Cortese), Andrew Goldberg (Sarah); dear grandchildren Rachel, Eric, and Gianna Goldberg, Nicole, Michael, and Mia Pozzoulo, Marianna, Samantha, Jackson, and Braeden Pittman, and Brianne, Taylor, and Andrew Goldberg, Jr; great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Luca, Blakely, and Harper; his brother, Joseph Barry Goldberg (Alma) and sister-in-law Anna Pipino (the late Albert). Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday, March 9, 2023, beginning at 9:30 AM at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1035 Turner Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
