Robert (Bob) Cohen April 28, 1936 – March 31, 2026
Robert (Bob) Cohen, husband of Betty Cohen (née Poplow), passed away on March 31, 2026.
He was the husband of Betty for 42 years; father of Ron Cohen (Rich Laverick) and Linda DiCamillo; and part of a close blended family that included Howard Livers (Melissa), Eileen Brinberg (Paul), Lori Hess, and Nancy Margolis (Marc Ackerman). He was a proud grandfather to Marissa, Jonathan, Dylan, Leah, Jake, Dani, Sam, Henry, and Max, and great-grandfather to AJ.
Bob was simply someone who enjoyed being around people. He had an easy way about him—always ready with a comment, a little joke, or one of his goofy French or Spanish accents just to get a reaction. He liked to kibitz, and he was good at it. People felt comfortable around him.
He once said, “I just enjoy people,” and that really summed him up. Whether he was helping someone pick out a suit or just making conversation, he paid attention and made it feel genuine. Even after selling his Army & Navy stores, he kept working at Macy’s and Saks—not because he had to, but because he liked the interaction. As he put it, he was “always a people person,” and that never changed.
He also liked to move. Bob loved to dance—jitterbug, cha-cha, disco—didn’t matter. If there was music, he was in. “Mambo Bob” was still out on the dance floor at his granddaughter Leah’s wedding just five months ago. He was also a regular on the tennis court for over 50 years and once joked that if he could be 25 again for a week, he’d “play tennis every day, all day.”
When asked what made for a good life, Bob didn’t overcomplicate it. He said it meant having “a good family…people you can trust,” and not just thinking about yourself, but about other people too. And when it came to his grandkids, his advice was simple: live a good life, enjoy what you do, and be a good person.
Above everything, Betty was the center of his world. In a recent conversation, he said plainly that she was “one of the best things that happened to me in my life.” They built a life together filled with travel, laughs, and time with family. They enjoyed being together, and it showed.
Bob will be missed in all the everyday ways—his voice, his humor, the way he could turn a simple moment into something a little more fun.
