Richard Goldsborough
Ithaca - Richard Goldsborough was born on April 1, 1927 and died on May 1 , at Hospicare, in Ithaca, NY. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, he was loved by all for his warm, easygoing, good nature. He was easy to please and content with his life, uncommon traits that made him a pleasure for all to be around. He was a mench. Though simple and strightforward in his connection with people, he could sometimes surprise and delight with his wry sense of humor, usually shared with a sparkle in his eye. He was always open minded and interested in learning new things, right up to the end.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ina (2010), his partner for 55 years. He is survived by his 3 children, Reid, Rachael (Elan) and Andrew (Karen) and his 6 grandchildren, Eric and Michelle, Ariana and Gabriel, and Sarah and Rachel. Also surviving is his younger brother, Larry (Phyllis). Richard saw his children and grandchildren as the joy of his life and his crowning achievement and loved keeping up with each of their lives.
Born in Philadelphia, "Dick" graduated from Central High School and Penn State University. He was an avid basketball player and sports fan, avocations he transmitted to his children. He served in the Coast Guard at the tail end and just after World War Two. Then he worked as a real estate agent and for the family hardware business in West Philadelphia while helping to raise his family in Bala Cynwyd, PA. He and Ina enjoyed playing golf and tennis and vacationing in such exotic locations as China, Africa, and Scandinavia. They had an active retirement in West Palm Beach, FL, for 15 years. He spent his last 5 years in Ithaca, NY, at McGraw House, where he had many friends and enjoyed playing cards, going on outings, and being as independent as he could. He was an adept bridge player and a mentor for newcomers to the game during his stay at McGraw House.
We will miss him dearly.
There will be a funeral service in Philadelphia.
