Obituary

A woman of strength. A woman of faith. A woman with a heart big enough to love everybody.

Some people enter your life and leave memories behind. Others leave something much greater; a presence that becomes a part of who you are.

Raheida Nadine Shelton was that kind of woman.

Born November 28, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Raheida was the beloved daughter of Gloria Jean Lovett and George Nathan Shelton, both of whom preceded her in transition. From the very beginning, Raheida carried a spirit that could not easily be broken. She was strong, resilient, forgiving, and full of love.

Raheida graduated high school and went on to become a caregiver, a role that seemed almost destined for her because caring for others was a big part of her nature. She had an instinct to nurture, to help, to make people feel safe, and to make sure no one around her felt forgotten.

Raheida had a way of making sure that the people around her were okay. She cared deeply and genuinely. If you needed something, she was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back without thinking twice. Her heart was one of her greatest gifts.

A Family Woman at Heart

Raheida was deeply connected to her family and treasured the relationships she shared with them.

She was preceded in transition by her siblings Lennell, Charles, Roger, and Eric, and leaves to cherish her memories with her siblings Andrea, Robert, and Shavonne.

Her family was a source of love, connection, laughter, and memories that she carried with her throughout her life.

But above all, Raheida was a mother.

She loved her children fiercely: Tahire, Daisja, Waynae, and Walliyyah. Her children knew her love not only through the things she said, but through everything she did. She was protective. She was supportive. She showed up. She made sure her children knew how proud she was of them, and she never stopped believing in them.

She also welcomed Daquan, her beloved son-in-law, into the family and loved him as one of her own.

And then came another title she wore with just as much love: mom-mom.

Her grandchildren, Mylaa, Masai, and Nylo, were a precious part of her heart. She poured the same love, protection, encouragement, and pride into them. She wanted the people she loved to know that they mattered, that they were capable, and that she believed in them.

Raheida was a woman who trusted God.

Life placed obstacles in her path, but she continued to choose faith. When circumstances tried to break her, she leaned even harder into God. She believed in forgiveness. She believed in love. And she believed that no matter what life brought her way, God was always bigger than the obstacle in front of her.

That faith was not something she simply spoke about, it was something she lived.

Outside of caring for others, Raheida loved traveling, family gatherings, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved. Family was never just a word to her. Family was her world.

She loved people deeply. She forgave freely. She trusted God completely. And she gave love generously.
