Phyllis Roskin (nee Ziv) 94, widow of the late Morris Roskin, passed away on August 27, 2024. A lifelong Philadelphian and resident of Northeast Philadelphia for more than 60 years, she spent the bulk of her working career in public education in Philadelphia. She began her time in education as a volunteer at her sons’ elementary school, which progressed into a full-time job as a paid library assistant. Phyllis then went back to school, part time, while her children were still themselves in school, eventually completing a bachelor’s degree at Temple University. She then worked for a number of years as a school library teacher or librarian, before joining Morris, himself a career public school teacher, into retirement. After formally retiring Phyllis continued to remain active. Soon after retirement she and Morris bought a condominium unit in Florida. For the first ten years of that retirement, she accompanied her husband to their home in south Florida for the winter months and back to Philadelphia each spring. While in Florida she became a founding member of the Philadelphia club in her retirement community. After her husband’s death she continued to return to Florida each year, for almost another twenty years, right up to her recent passing. At the same time, Phyllis remained active in public education, serving as a substitute teacher until she was well into her eighties.Throughout her years Phyllis maintained a number of interests, including reading (particularly historical biographies), playing solitaire on her computer, and generally remaining informed about goings on in the news and in her community. Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Paul Roskin Esquire of Richmond Virginia, and Dr. Robert Roskin of Seattle, Robet’s wife Ellen, and several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
