It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Scher, a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather, who passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, in Brick, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carole (nee Kaufman), his children Jodi (David) Palanker of Egg Harbour Township, NJ, and Jeff (Stacey) Scher of Madison, NJ, his grandchildren, Gabby and Carly Scher, Zach and Alex Palanker, and Clara (Jonathan) Reshef, Lily and Sam Scher. He is preceded in death by his parents Clara (nee Litwack) and Julius Forgang, his brother Warren Forgang, and son Bradley Scher.
Philip Scher was born in Philadelphia in 1937, and raised by loving parents Julius and Clara Forgang, along with brother Warren Forgang. He thrived in the happy and stable home that the Forgangs provided and enjoyed many fun times with his brother Warren, who was also his best friend. He earned a BS in Mathematics, and a MS in Physics, from Drexel University, and went on to work for the RCA Corporation, and later General Electric.
Philip met the love of his life, Carole Kaufman in 1958. The two were married in 1961 and raised their family in Philadelphia before eventually settling in Cherry Hill, NJ. Philip had a zest for life and pursued his passions with unmatched enthusiasm. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, socializing with friends, playing tennis and chess, watching Eagles games, and vacationing down the shore with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
We invite you to join us in a celebration of his life on Friday June 5th at 12pm at Shalom Memorial Park 3573 Pine Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Together, let us honor his memory by sharing stories and reminiscing about the happy times.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the ALS Association als.org
