With great sadness we announce the passing of Paul Dirk Van’t Veer on June 18, 2025, at the age of 96. Paul was born in Philadelphia on February 7, 1929, but was taken to France at an early age by his parents, where his father ran the European operations of Standard Oil of New Jersey throughout World War II. He lived in Paris as a child, until safety concerns led the family to relocate to a small rural village. The downing of an American plane just outside town renewed in Paul a keen interest to return to the country of his birth, which he did, on his own, at the age of 18. Thereafter, he worked his way through the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and volunteered for service during the Korean War, in which he was a tank commander. When he met his wife, the former Jane Newman, he felt as if all his life’s dreams had been fulfilled.Funeral services will be private as we honor Paul's wishes.
