HAIMOWITZ
OSCAR, age 94, died on September 15, 2011. A veteran of WWII, he served proudly as a U.S. Marine. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he raised his family in Springfield PA, with beloved wife of 35 years Sylvia (nee Naides) who died in 1979.
He is survived by his children, Esta and Rick Cutler, Stephan Haimowitz and Ann Gainer, Shelley and Jay Silverman; grandchildren, Howard and Emily Cutler, J.J. and Barb Cutler, Stephanie and David Levin, Sara Haimowitz, Avi Haimowitz, and Sharon Silverman; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Elizabeth, Isabel, Abigail, Matthew, Max, and Jesse. He is also survived by his wife of 30 years, Raquel (nee Tarshis), with whom he lived in Israel and Beverly Hills CA, where he died. Oscar was the first Executive Director of Temple Adath Israel, Merion Station PA, and was instru-mental in establishing the Synagogue Administrators Retirement Pension Fund. He enjoyed traveling well into his 80s to Israel, South America, Hawaii, China, Europe, and Russia. In California, he was a volunteer for the Beverly Hills Police Department, a kinder-garten, and Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Pop-pop Oscar (and later Pop-pop O) will always be remembered for his renditions of Tora Lora Lora, Zoom Golly Golly, and Tumbalalaika.
Contributions in his memory can be made to Jewish War Veterans in Washington DC. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service Sunday 12 Noon, at
