ORAH MAHLAB (née Tauberg), a pillar of strength, love, and devotion, passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 80. Born in Israel, Orah immigrated to Pittsburgh with her husband and two eldest children where they welcomed their youngest daughter and established a life filled with purpose, love, and community.
Orah’s dedication to her family was unwavering. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children, while also pursuing a successful career in practice administration at the University of Pittsburgh Dental School. Her sharp wit, kindness, and generosity earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
In retirement, Orah and her husband relocated to Philadelphia to be closer to their children and cherished grandchildren. Even in her golden years, Orah continued to nurture her family ties and build new connections and remained a force of nature – strong-willed and always ready with a warm smile and a generous heart.
Orah’s family was her everything, and she would stop at nothing to support and care for them. Her love, guidance, and unwavering devotion inspired her children and grandchildren to be their best selves.
Orah's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her beloved Moshe; their children, Dr. Ron (Van) Mahlab, Dr. Maya (Steven) Brooks, Dr. Dana (Adam) Abramowitz, as well as seven cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Sydney, Yehuda, Akiva, Ari, and Eliana, who affectionately called her "Tata” (Grandmother); and her sister, Rina Barnea. Orah’s memory will be a blessing to all who knew her, and her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire generations to come.
