Norman Tener

TENER NORMAN, Jan. 25, 2003. Norman was owner and operator of the ``New White Palace Bakery,' the best bread in the city. Growing up, he lived in South Philly at 8th and Porter Sts. and loved going to 4th and Porter for a workout playing ball with the guys. He helped lead Bartram High School win the Public League Championship in 1944. He also played for the YMHA in the Jewish League and Mitchell Field in the Air Force in 1945. He was scouted out to try for the Philadelphia Phillies, but his arm and back pained him when he threw. Basketball was his real love. The only way to describe Norman was in his daughters own words: I Admire a Special Man There is this hero, he's quite amazing He's always loving and never selfish; Sometimes he praises He always acts grown, never selfish He's not stupid or foolish, but he's fun He's a giving man and is unique in every way of his own He's smart and definitely one of a kind He is well known He always has a strong mind and has the attitude he can do it He might not save lives but he always tries and tries When he's wrong he admits it He's extremely wise He's comfortable not famous or rich He never gets bothered He never raises his tone to a high pitch He's my hero, my wonderful father by Ann Tener Husband of Elizabeth (nee McGuffin), father of Elizabeth Tener, Megan Tener and Ann Tener, brother of Irene Altman and Dr. Moe Tener. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Tues. 10 A.M. precisely, GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL SACKS SUBURBAN NORTH, 310 Second St. Pike, Southampton. Int. Forest Hills Cem. Shiva will be observed at the late residence. Contributions in his memory may be made to the University of Pennsylvania Leukemia Foundation.
