Norman Howard Federman, "Norm" or "Coach Fed" to those who knew him, passed away at age 83 surrounded by his family on February 26, 2024. He joins his cherished wife, Freddi, to whom he was married for 57 years, who passed away in 2022. He also joins his beloved mother, Estelle, father, Sydney, and brother, Larry. Pathologically early to all appointments, this is the first he could be described as "late."
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Norm lived most of his life in Philadelphia. He was a devout Philliies fan, lover of British Detective shows and cheesesteaks. He loved to make people laugh (or groan) with jokes and puns of varying degrees of quality. He was a dedicated teacher and coach (of cross-country, swimming, softball and bowling) for over thirty years at Stetson Junior High and Germantown High School. The love of his students was evident in their excited shouts of "Coach Fed!" when he randomly crossed paths with them all over the country. He was terrible at remembering names but great with faces, once declaring " I went to Kindergarten with that guy" at a Wawa, and sure enough, he had--over 60 years ago.
Norm/Yaya/Zayde is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Marcia, his daughter, Elisa (Neal), sons, Richard (Joy Cloud) and Matthew (Cassandra), and grandchildren, Emily, Leah, Ethan, Hannah and Fletcher, who will dearly miss him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Friday March 1st at 11:30 AM precisely at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael Sacks Suburban North, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday at the home of Elisa and Neal Hoffman. Contributions in his memory may be made to Phillies Charities, www.mlb.com/phillies/community/phillies-charities.
