Obituary

Naomi Block Rafaeli (née Brooks), 88, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026. She was born on November 15, 1937, and grew up in Northeast Philadelphia at Robbins and Castor Avenues.

More than 62 years ago, Naomi and her husband, Marvin Block, a Philadelphia native, moved into their home on Oakfield Lane in Northeast Philadelphia. There, they raised their four children and created a home that remained the center of family life for many decades. Naomi’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She was a dedicated mom, wife, aunt, Mom-mom and friend to all.

Naomi was married to Marvin for 54 years. Later in life, she married Peter Rafaeli, with whom she shared over 9 years of marriage until his passing. Naomi and Peter made their home together at Rydal Park in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, where Naomi formed many wonderful friendships.

Naomi devoted 40 years to teaching in the Philadelphia public schools. She taught business education courses, including typing, stenography, and computers, at Lincoln High School and Northeast High School. She also served as a school/work coordinator. Her dedication to her students, along with her caring and positive attitude, made her a beloved teacher to generations of students throughout the Philadelphia area.

Naomi is survived by her four children and their spouses: Toby Grosswald (Michael Hynes), Gary Block (Marika), Cheryl Friedenberg (Michael), and Deena Padnis (Jeff). She was a loving and proud grandmother to Trevor Grosswald, Alyssa Friedenberg, Julia Friedenberg, Sophia Block, Benjamin Block, Ryan Padnis, Rachel Padnis, Alex Padnis, and Drew Hynes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at Goldsteins’ Funeral Directors Suburban North 310 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, Pennsylvania, 18966 on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, Pennsylvania. A shiva luncheon will be held following the interment.
