Nancy Nance (nee Herbach) passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2026 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of 43 years to Dean and mother of Linda McGuire and Amy Cohen (Michael). Adored “nanny” to Linda’s boys, Mac (Nicole), Miko (Ella), and Kip; and Amy’s girls, Eliza and Chloe. Born in Melrose Park to Mary (Billie) and Gilbert Herbach, Nancy was a proud alum of Cheltenham High School, Simmons College, and earned a Masters in Library Science at Drexel. Long time law librarian at Drinker, Biddle, and Reath. Always a city girl at heart, Nancy spent her entire adult life in Center City, including more than 40 years at Independence Place on Washington Square. For the past 12 years, Nancy and Dean enjoyed spending the cold months in the Indian Wells area of Southern California. She will be remembered for her impeccable fashion sense, her voracious appetite for books, her extensive world travels, her talent at cooking and entertaining, her love of dogs, her loyalty to lifelong and newfound friends, and her inimitable sense of humor.
Donations may be made to the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation.
A memorial service will be held in the fall.
