Myrna Gelfand

Myrna Gelfand

Myrna Gelfand, born on April 12, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, left this world on July 18, 2025. She lived a full, vibrant life, deeply rooted in love and community, a life that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Myrna, together with her beloved husband Arnold, built a thriving shoe business in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, where her warmth and personal connection to her customers were felt by all. She did not merely sell shoes; she celebrated life’s milestones alongside her patrons, engaging in their happiness at Bar Mitzvahs, weddings, and various family celebrations. Her spirit of giving extended beyond her business, as she was actively involved with Hadassah, eventually rising to become Chairwoman of her chapter, where her leadership bolstered the community she cherished.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Myrna found her greatest joy in the company of her family. Her love for her children, Andrea and Brian, and her cherished grandchildren, including Joshua Heffler, Victoria Green, Jason Heffler, Brooke LaRocca, and Justin Gelfand, knew no bounds. Even after a long week at work, Myrna would go to great lengths to spend time with them, especially during Jewish holidays when her kitchen came alive with the aromas of her famous chicken soup and sweet and sour meatballs, dishes that became the centerpiece of family gatherings and the source of many cherished memories.

Myrna's personality radiated kindness; her warmth made an indelible mark on all who met her. She was known for her sweet demeanor, bringing smiles and comfort to many. A talented knitter, Myrna crafted beautiful garments not only for herself but also for her family, each stitch infused with love. Her fashion sense was impeccable, and she delighted in sharing it with her loved ones. Beyond her creative pursuits, Myrna was an avid games enthusiast. Her playful spirit shone through as she challenged her grandson to scrabble matches, played cards with friends, and engaged in marathon mahjong sessions. Her love for reading enriched her life, offering her new vistas and deepening her perspectives.

Myrna leaves behind her daughter Andrea Heffler, son Brian Gelfand, and their spouses, Brad Heffler and Lisa Gelfand, along with her adoring grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear companion, Arthur Rothstein. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family will endure through all those she has touched.

She is preceded in death by her cherished husband Arnold Gelfand, her parents Samuel and Anna Mokrin, and her sister Gloria Fishbein. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her family.

As we celebrate the life of Myrna Gelfand, we remember the sweet, loving woman who brought people together, shared in their joys, and left a lasting impact on the hearts of those she loved. A graveside service will be held on July 21, 2025, at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, PA, where family and friends are welcomed to join in honoring her remarkable life.

Shiva will be observed Monday following interment, Monday evening and Tuesday evening at the home of Andrea and Brad Heffler.

May her memory be a blessing to all.
