Morton Wolpert

Morton G. Wolpert, beloved husband of Marcia Wolpert (nee Goodman) for 71 years, passed away on January 4, 2024. He was adored by his daughter Rebecca (Joel) Schwartz, son Stephen (Carol) Wolpert, granddaughter Cody Wolpert, and grandsons Jeffrey (Leila) Schwartz, Eric (Katie Acord) Schwartz, and Jacob Wolpert.

After attending West Philadelphia High School and then passing up a piano scholarship at Curtis Institute of Music, Mort graduated from Temple University with a degree in psychology and enlisted in the Army. After his service, he sold swimming pools/bomb shelters. One customer (an IBM executive), recognized his capabilities and Mort became a top salesman for IBM. He then started a computer-leasing company in the 1960s when one computer filled a large room. As a husband and father, Mort spent his life taking care of his family, who he cared for deeply. He loved to joke and schmooze and was a real mensch.

Mort was very active at The Philadelphia Zoo where his wife was a docent for over 40 years. He loved the Pocono Mountains, tennis, golf, and opera. Mort requested to be cremated and buried with Marcia upon her death. No funeral service is planned at this time and Shiva will be observed privately. Contributions in his memory may be made to The Philadelphia Zoo.
