HOFFMAN
MORRIS age 96, on June 17, 2009. Born in South Philadelphia, he descended from a family of professional musicians. As a child, his father taught him to play the clarinet, which led to Morris's making musical performance his life's work. At 18, he joined the Philadelphia Musicians Union and began his career playing Jewish Klezmer Folk Music at weddings, parties and other gigs in the Philadelphia area. His career was interrupted when he served in the Army during WWII. Stationed in Germany throughout the war, he served in General George Patton's Infantry. When he returned to Philadelphia, after the war, he joined the house band at the Latin Casino, playing saxophone and clarinet until the Supper Club closed in 1977. While at that Latin Casino, he fondly recalled both knowing and working with great artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Sammy Davis Jr. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their families. Services Friday at Mt. Sharon Cem. at 1:00 P.M.
