Morris Ballen (1938-2026)

Morris, 88, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He always said he wanted to be just like his dad, and there was never a question in his mind that he would join him in business. He began working there part-time in high school, devoting his life to growing and evolving Disc Makers with his brother Larry, daughter Anne, and honorary family Tony van Veen, among many others. He was active in the business right up until the end of his days. He lived a vibrant, fun, and successful life, deeply devoted to his family.

Born and raised in Strawberry Mansion and then West Oak Lane, Morris graduated from Central High School (1956 - 206th class) and the Wharton School of Business. He served two years in the army during peacetime, living in New York City.

In his late 30s, Morris became a runner, eventually training to run marathons, in NY and in Philadelphia. After he did that, he said he knew he could accomplish anything. Although his knees gave out, he continued to keep his fitness and health as a top priority. He enjoyed dining out, fine wine, travel, films and sharing all of these with friends and family. Morris was an avid reader, consuming three daily newspapers and mostly nonfiction books on history and current events. As a successful business owner, Morris mentored many people over the years, advising them on life and sharing his negotiating expertise.

Morris is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Lynn, two daughters, Anne and Carolyn (Chris) and stepdaughter Tracy (Paul), as well as grandchildren Rachel, Phoebe, Max, Cobrin, Cora, and Jackson. He also leaves his precious nieces and nephew, Sasha (Dee), Chloe (Barry) and Ivin (Meghan), along with great nieces and nephews Elio, Marina, Beau, Dominic, and Barbara.

He will be missed not only by the immediate family but also by a large extended family of cousins, many friends, countless business contacts and employees and not least by his dog Tucker.

Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services, Thursday, 2:30 PM precisely at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Funeral Directors Inc., 6410 N. Broad St., Phila., PA. A livestream link is available here. Interment Private. Shiva will be observed at his late residence.
