Miriam Glass passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on January 28. She was born to Rachael and Jacob Lerner in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Brooklyn College just as the U. S. was entering World War 2 and had begun a large buildup of naval forces. With college chemistry courses in her background, she was offered a job in a spectroscopy laboratory at the Philadelphia Naval Base. To a daughter of the Great Depression, a government job was too good to pass up, and so she moved to Philadelphia. Working at the navy yard, she met her future husband, a young chemist named Alfred Glass. Miriam and Alfred were married in 1946 and spent 40 years together in Philadelphia until Alfred's passing in 1986. Miriam was active in the sisterhood group of her temple as well as being a full-time loving mom and wife. A few years after Alfred's death, Miriam moved to Richmond, Virginia to be close to her daughter Judith. Miriam is survived by her younger sister Violet Nitzberg; son Nathaniel Glass and wife Esther; daughter Judith Caplan & husband Martin, grandsons; Jason & wife, Michal Caplan, Avrom Caplan, and Gabriel & wife, Kaori Caplan and Alfred Glass; and great granddaughters, Ariella and Devora Caplan and greatly loved by them all. There will be a Memorial Service at Bliley's Funeral Home (3801 Augusta Ave. Richmond VA 23230). Sunday Feb.3 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of choice.
