Michael Andrew Milkis October 4 1959-December 19 2020
We are so heartbroken to announce that Michael passed away on Saturday December 19 2020 after battling the Covid-19 virus. The Milkis family and all who knew Michael have lost a very special person.
He lived his life with passion for his work, his family, skiing (in Colorado, Tahoe and every mountain in the Poconos at the first snowfall), golf, fishing, traveling, and attending Grateful Dead concerts (sometimes one every night of the week in different states). He loved cruising and island vacations and going to the Jersey shore. He always said that he was "rich with friends." He stayed close with many of his childhood friends and picked up many more along the way.
Michael was born in Mt Airy where he had the fondest memories of playing in the streets with all his friends and neighbors. He then moved to Penn Valley and graduated from Harriton High School and continued on to West Chester University where he had a lot of fun- maybe too much! He went on to partner in business with his father, Nolan, and brother, Ricky, where they warehoused and sold truck parts and janitorial supplies. Michael's top priority was always that his Dad and Ricky's needs were taken care of before his own. He was overjoyed to welcome his stepmother, Marilyn, and stepsister, Dara, into his family. He loved honored his mom Sandy and treated her like a queen. He met and married Sharon and had 2 incredible girls, Marlee and Brooke. They were his life!!!
After 9 years of marriage with children ages 2 and 6, Michael was tragically struck by an oncoming truck leaving him physically and mentally disabled. After 2 months in a coma, he emerged and worked his ass off every day for 21 amazing years. Although this was not the life he imagined, his family, friends and caregivers helped him to live his life to the fullest. Because of his brain injury, life for all of us was challenging at times, but he brought us so much joy with his one of a kind personality and deepest love.
Michael was the proudest father, most caring brother, and most loyal son. He loved and appreciated Sharon for being the best wife and lifetime advocate that anyone could ask for.
Funeral arrangements will be private to ensure safety during the pandemic. Donations in his name may be made to the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, Covid Relief Fund, Philabundance, or the charity of your choice.
