Michael J Cohen

MJC, age 58 of Philadelphia, died on May 28, 2022 following a long illness. He was the son of the late Arlene Cohen, and is survived by his father Steven Cohen, stepmother Marie Cohen, brother Ken Cohen, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many close friends.

Michael earned a B.A. In Journalism/Cultural Studies from SUNY-Empire State College. He had a very successful 18-year career as a commercial/entertainment copywriter. He also held several positions in the medical publishing field.  MJC’s love of improvisational comedy resulted in 30 years of performing on the professional rosters of ComedySportz (CSz) Chicago, Philadelphia and New York. He was honored to perform with CSz Manchester as part of the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  Michael also wrote scripted satire and wrote and performed in many revues.

As a four-year member of the Savoy Company of Philadelphia he performed in the chorus of works by Gilbert & Sullivan, and he wrote most of the program copy from 2018 – 2020.  Friends and family are invited to the graveside funeral at Shalom Memorial Park, 25 Byberry Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 on Thursday June 2nd, 2022, at 1PM sharp. Donations in his memory may be made to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (www.plannedparenthood.org), ACLU (action.aclu.org/give/now) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
