Meryl Bacharach, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Chicago and raised in Philadelphia, Meryl faced life’s challenges with remarkable resilience. She was born with cerebral palsy and encountered many obstacles throughout her life, yet she met them with generosity, an infectious sense of humor, courage, and a vibrant spirit that endeared her to everyone who knew her. She had a gift for making others laugh and was always eager to lend a helping hand.
Some of Meryl’s happiest years were spent working at the Northeast Regional Library on Cottman Avenue. A lifelong lover of books, music, and learning, she found purpose in serving others and often spoke of her years at the library with tremendous pride. She also enjoyed needlepoint, listening to her favorite singers, and collecting turtle keepsakes, magnets, etc., a tradition lovingly encouraged by family and friends over the years.
Above all, Meryl cherished her family. She was deeply grateful for the lifelong love and support of her sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Tom (deceased) and Dale and Alan. She also took immense pride in her children, Amy and Marc, and her cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Claire, Isabelle, and Sebastian, who always think of her when they see something in the shape of a turtle.
Meryl was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arnold and Loretta Cohen, whose passing deeply affected her.
Though Meryl’s life was marked by challenges, it was equally defined by love, kindness, laughter, and the joy she brought to those around her. May her memory forever be a blessing.
In accordance with her wishes, Meryl was cremated. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors, Suburban North, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 11, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made to support individuals living with cerebral palsy or research into the condition through United Cerebral Palsy or the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation.
