Martin Katzin, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on June 2, 2025, at Symphony Square in Bala Cynwyd, his home for the past 10 years and a community where he was warmly cared for. Born on January 7, 1931, in Philadelphia, Marty was the son of David and Sadie Katzin. He was predeceased by his wife, Jessica Katzin, and by his partner, Carole Krassner. He was a devoted father to his daughter Florence Himmel and her husband Paul Himmel, and a proud and loving Zayda to his granddaughters Jillian Himmel and Sofia Himmel.
Marty graduated from Central High School (Class 190) and went on to earn his degree in education from Temple University. He was a teacher and later a principal at Farrell Elementary and Middle School. He served in the National Guard Reserves. Marty was a past president of Shaare Shamayim Synagogue and remained active in synagogue life for many years.
A graveside funeral service will be held on June 5, 2025, at 2:30 pm at Shalom Memorial Park, 3573 Pine Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Following the service, Shiva will be observed at Symphony Square, 35 Old Lancaster Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
