Martin Coopersmith

Martin Coopersmith passed away quietly with his family at his side on June 22, 2025. He was 98 years old. Marty was born on March 6th, 1927, to Samuel and Anna Coopersmith; raised in West Oak Lane. He was married to and survived by the first love of his life – Barbara Coopersmith (Kushner) – for 68 years. Together Marty and Barbara created a family – warmly a tribe – with of 3 daughters, Susan (Zach), Missy, and Julie (Jeff), 11 grandchildren Barak (Stacey), Tal, Ari, Maya, Mira, Sydney, Zeke, Jake (Hayley) and Alexandra, and 2 great (truly terrific) grandchildren – Shira and Eli.

Marty graduated from Central High (Class #183), University of Pennsylvania – the Wharton School and became a CPA after passing the exam on his 1st try after working 2.5 years at a national accounting firm. Marty left the accounting firm that he started with after college and started his own firm. He struggled for the first few years while courting Barbara; eventually he met 2 clients who changed his financial life.

Marty was involved communally and was a strong supporter of Israel. He became involved in Germantown Jewish Center and spent hours each week working to keep the synagogue stay afloat as a one-man finance officer. For Israel, he actively helped the country with playgrounds and swimming pools for the children and their parents, raised money for the IDF and traveled there numerous times with family and friends.

At 81, Marty retired, split time between Philadelphia and Florida, traveled, and continued to support his family in every way.

Marty is survived by his wife of 68 years Barbara and his daughters, his sons-in-law, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his brother Norman, sister in-law Roslyn.
