Mark Shapiro

Mark “Buzz” Shapiro passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 15, 2024.  Buzz leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Judie Shapiro, brother Richie Shapiro (Judy Shapiro), daughters, Stacey Katz (Rob), Suzy Riesenberg (Rich), and son. Scott Shapiro (Jill).  He is also mourned by his loving grandchildren, Samantha Riesenberg Eshbach (Cole), Jaime Rowley (Jack), Lindsay Shapiro (fiancé Bryan King), Amanda Riesenberg (boyfriend Nick Maurer), Andy Katz (fiancé Megan Boyle ), and Melanie Shapiro (boyfriend John Fender).   Finally, the LIGHT of Buzz’s final days were his 2 Great Granddaughters Ava Rose Eshbach, and Emma Rowley.   No matter how he felt in the day, Buzz would perk up each time he was able to see Ava or Emma.  Buzz was born on August 4, 1937, to Rose and Louis Shapiro in Philadelphia.  He was nicknamed Buzz as a child and graduated from Philadelphia Textile Institute in 1959 (known as Philadelphia University).   Buzz and his father started a Hardware store called Pik-A-Panel in the heart of Germantown.  When Buzz’s son Scott graduated college, he became the 3^rd generation to work in the family business.   Buzz and Judie started their lives together at 2^nd and Cheltenham and then moved to Laverock, Pa to raise their family.  Through the years, Judie and Buzz spent time down the shore, in Las Vegas, and Aruba.   Buzz enjoyed poker, horse racing and often took the grandchildren to the track.  Once becoming empty nesters, they moved to Briar Woods and more recently reside in Ann’s Choice.

Relatives and Friends are invited a Memorial Service on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 3:30 PM at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael Sacks Suburban North, Southampton, PA 18966.  Interment is Private.  The family will observe Shiva at the home of Suzy and Rich on Thursday after services and Friday, 12:00 - 4:00 PM.  Minyan will be at 7 PM, Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to the Ann’s Choice JRC.
