PEKTER
MARILYN Z. (nee Engle), wife of Mort Pekter died Sunday, April 29, 2007 at her home in Broad Axe after a courageous battle with cancer. A retired kindergarten teacher who taught at Spring Mill Elementary and later at Plymouth Elementary School inspired countless youngsters with her joy of life and learning, giving them a strong foundation for a lifetime of accomplishment and exploration of all that life has to offer. The many activities she shared with her students formed strong bonds of friendship. Many of these same youngsters and their parents continued their friendship with her throughout the years. After her retirement, she continued her love of learning by participating in painting classes and book clubs. Attendance at theatrical events was just one of many in a long lists of her wide variety of interests.
The love she shared with her husband Mort was viewed by many as the strongest and most perfect marriage many had seen. During their 56 loving years together, she traveled through-out the world with both her husband and their friends, frequently making new friends along the way. In the journals she kept while traveling she wrote down her impressions of these trips. These, along with many photographs, enabled her to relive and enjoy those trips years afterwards. These memories inspired her children and grandchildren with her love of travel.
She loved spending time at her home in Atlantic City, sitting on the beach, socializing with her many friends and going out to favorite restaurants, shops and cultural events. One of her greatest joys in life was hearing about and participating in the day to day adventures of her adored granddaughters. There was never a moment she couldn't stop and enjoy the joys of their lives.
Her ability to keep in contact with childhood friends, class mates, neighbors, past and present, from her homes in Broad Axe and Atlantic City, fellow teachers, students and their parents, book club and art class participants, and fellow travelers was truly astonishing.
Her life of 75 years is celebrated by her husband Mort, daughter, Ilene Weiss and her husband, Stephen of Silver Springs, MD, son Lee Pekter and his wife, Joanne, of Lansdale, 2 grand-daughters, Heather and Laura Weiss, and one brother, Howard Engle and his wife Charlotte of Sarasota, FL. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Tues., 11 A.M. precisely at Cong. Beth Or, 239 Welsh Rd. (Welsh Rd. and Butler Pike), Maple Glen, PA 19002. Int. Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
