Obituary

Marilyn Neuman nee Yellin, affectionately known as Gambu by her grandchildren, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026. Just days before her passing, she celebrated her 91st birthday on July 26th with those she loved most, surrounded by family, food, music, and laughter--a fitting celebration for a woman whose life was centered on bringing people together.

She will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her home was a place where everyone was welcome and where no one ever left hungry. She was famous for preparing far more delicious  food than any gathering could possibly require, a tradition her family came to expect and cherish.

She also possessed a wonderful, subtle sense of humor, often delivered so quietly and perfectly that it took a moment before everyone realized just how funny she was. And when it came to her grandchildren, restraint was never one of her virtues. She delighted in spoiling them, loving them, feeding them and making sure they always knew how special they were to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan Neuman, whose passing during the COVID pandemic left an enormous absence in her life. Their years together created the foundation of the family they loved so deeply, and his memory remained close to her throughout the years that followed.

Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind: her three children, Joel (Helen), Sharyn (Rick) and Deborah (Mark). Her grandchildren, Sam (Jamie), Eli (Lindsay), Josh (Cara), Ryen (Grazi), Daniel (Juli), Michael, Julia (Logan), Jessie and her great-grandchildren, Jude, Ollie, Oliver, Perry and Leo. Through them, the traditions, stories, humor, and love that defined her life will continue for generations. She is also survived by her sister Sheila and her brother Ben.

At 91, hers was a long life, but for those who loved her, it could never have been long enough. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered -- as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and as the heart of a family that was fortunate to call her their own.
