Louis Cushner

CUSHNER, LOUIS, 90 - a businessman in Glendora for more than 20 years, died on Tuesday. The youngest of Sarah and Penn Cushner's 12 children, Lou was a native of Philadelphia, born there in 1915. A self-made man, Mr. Cushner built warships in the Philadelphia Navy Yards during World War II, and was on the team that built the USS New Jersey. While serving his country in the war effort, he served his community as an auxiliary policeman. After the war, Mr. Cushner moved to Williamstown, and was involved with building stainless steel facades for the Bellevue Stratford and other high-rise edifices in Philadelphia. He was also a member of Iron Workers Local 234, and served for ten years in the office of Secretary Treasurer. In 1959, Mr. Cushner opened Lou's Auto Supply Store in Glendora, which he ran with his family for many years while continuing to serve his community as a member of the Knights of Pythias. After retirement, he moved to Atlantic City with his wife, and in later years moved to Pennswood Village in Bucks County, PA. A dearly beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Mr. Cushner was predeceased in 1999 by his cherished wife of 61 years, Rae. He is survived by his children, Stephen Cushner and his wife June of Anthem, AZ; Vicki Fox and her husband Schaen of Lawrenceville; his grandchildren David and Aaron Cushner of AZ and Jena Fox of New York; and his great-grandson Ethan Cushner in AZ. Funeral services will be held at Goldstein's Funeral Home at 310 Second Street Pike in Southampton, PA on Sunday, October 9, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, everyone should enjoy a cold beer and avoid broccoli for a day. ?? ?? ?? ??
