Louis Michael Capecci, MD, originally of Linwood, NJ, died on March 11, 2024, at 40 years old in Honolulu, Hawaii leaving behind a loving family and community devastated by the loss of such an amazing father, husband, physician and friend.
Serving as the only Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon in a 2,000 mile radius for Pacific Islanders, Louis dedicated his life to performing corrective surgeries on infants, children, and adults. From the tenderest of hearts to the most complex cases, his unwavering commitment to saving childrens’ lives was evident from an early age, as he knew he wanted to be a doctor even as a young child. This calling grew out of his own experiences receiving life saving corrective heart surgeries as a newborn.
Louis and Miriam’s enduring love story began in high school. They were about to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring bond. Together, they were raising two remarkable daughters: Grey (8) and Isla (2). In a beautiful twist of fate, Isla and Louis shared the same birthday; a cosmic alignment that brought tremendous joy to their family.
Beyond the operating room, Louis was a beacon of love and kindness. His impact extended far beyond the hospital walls; wherever he went, he left a trail of compassion and healing. Patients and colleagues alike admired his skill, but it was his warmth and empathy that truly set him apart.
Louis’s family was his heart’s sanctuary. His love for Miriam was unwavering, and their happiness radiated like sunlight through their home. He was not just a doctor but also a friend, a father, and a devoted husband. His absence will be felt deeply by everyone who knew him.
Louis graduated from Mainland Regional High School, earned a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2007 from Drexel University, an M.D. degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 2012, completed residency training in General Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh in 2017, completed a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Penn State Health-Hershey Medical Center in 2019, and completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford in 2021. Dr. Louis M. Capecci was Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University, working at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii for the past two years. He developed a new department saving many babies' and childrens' lives born with congenital heart disease.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Hoffman Capecci, two daughters, Grey Annabelle and Isla Star, his sister Sara Capecci Dollar (Todd Dollar), brothers Stephen N. Capecci, DO, Daniel J. Capecci, JD (Lindsay Forman Capecci), 7 nieces, and 1 nephew. He is survived by his parents, Phyllis M. Perkins, MD (Nathaniel H. Wiesenfeld, MD), and Louis F.J. Capecci, MD.
