We are deeply saddened to share the news that our mother, Linda Malloy, has passed away at the age of 66. Mom started having pain in July, and ever since that initial run to the hospital she was chasing pain relief, only to learn a few weeks ago that she had breast cancer. Two days after her diagnosis we were told it was metastatic breast cancer that had spread throughout her body, and that she was terminal. Then three days after that diagnosis, she was gone. The speed and aggression of her cancer was profound and none of us were prepared to lose her like this, or so fast. We are heartbroken but know that Mom is no longer suffering. She is now in peace, somewhere over the rainbow.
Born on November 8, 1957, in Philadelphia, PA, Linda lived a life filled with creativity, love, and passion. An artist and creative soul, she was compassionate, empathetic, and real. She spoke up when something wasn’t right, and she advocated for her beliefs. She was the heart of the family for her children - Jessica (Matthew), Allison (Christopher), and Francis - and years later, her grandchildren - Emily, Michael, and Charlotte. Mom did everything she could for us within her means. She was gritty and resourceful and taught us to do our best with what we had, and to find happiness in the little things.
Linda was incredibly close with her friends and family, including her mother Estelle who is 90 years old. Although she had a solid circle of friends acquired over the years, she was a free spirit and a friend to all. Mom was several people’s daily phone call, always lending an ear to listen. Along with her love of the arts, Linda loved nature. She enjoyed gardening and growing various plants. Recently she had nurtured a few Venus fly traps and taught the grandkids about the species. She also loved dogs, having cherished her pets - Buster, Sandy, and Daisy, over the years. She also loved to cook and bake and had many favorite “food items”. She was funny, smart, kind, and sometimes, a stinker. We all enjoyed poking fun at her whether it be how she pronounced a word or her dancing, she had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Mom was never concerned about keeping up with others and always taught us to be yourself, to embrace individuality and love who you are. I feel enormously fortunate that Linda Malloy is my mother. We will all continue her legacy through her influence and everything she taught us. We will never stop missing you, and know you are watching over us.
A memorial service will be held to honor Linda on Saturday, October 12th at 1:00 PM, Interment Private
