Leonard B. Allen, 97, lovingly known as “Lenny,” passed away on September 17, 2026, shortly after celebrating his 97th birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Polly Allen; his children, Bradly Allen (Susan), Randi Rush (Robert), and Jeff Allen (Robin); his grandchildren, Jennifer Goren (Josh), Michael Rush, Carly Allen, Jason Allen, Jaclyn Allen, and Cody Allen; and his great-grandchildren, Logan Goren and Rhys Hampton. Raised in South Philadelphia by his parents, John and Celia Allen, Lenny attended South Philadelphia High School, where he played trumpet and began a lifelong love of music. He later attended Penn State University, where he was a proud member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity and met the love of his life, Polly. After college, he joined Allen Brothers Wholesale Distributors, founded by his father in South Philadelphia in 1910. As the second generation, Lenny devoted more than 40 years to the family business. Allen Brothers was far more than a career to him; it was a central part of his identity, deeply rooted in his family history and very close to his heart. He took tremendous pride in carrying its name and legacy forward. Lenny loved the sun, the beach, and being around people. He and Polly enjoyed many wonderful years at their family shore house in Ventnor and later in Boynton Beach, Florida. He loved bike riding on the boardwalk, golf, tennis, cards, and watching his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. He also loved to sing and perform and appeared in many shows over the years. A naturally social person with a wonderful sense of humor, Lenny served as chairman of the entertainment committee at his country club in Boynton Beach and continued performing later at Shannondell. Above all, Lenny loved his family and took enormous pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His warmth, humor, love of life, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed. The funeral will be a private graveside service for family only. There will be no Shiva. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lenny’s memory to Jewish National Fund (JNF) at JNF.org.
